wHAT EXACTLY IS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION?
"Illegal immigration is the act of living in a country without any proof of citizenship or legalization from the Government."
I chose this documentary particularly because it closely relates with my topic of illegal immigration, because it talks about how bleak the future would be for the would be recipients of the DREAM act, due to their illegal status. It is heavy in info and statistics, and even includes the real life stories of the certain teenagers who are stuck in this immigration limbo, which all makes it that more effective in proving a point and persuading the viewer. In selecting a video that has teenagers as the victims of the strict immigration laws in the US, I am that much more persuasive in moving my class audience.
AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
For my awareness campaign, I have chosen to do a poster because of the great magnitude it can provide to the issue, because after all, "a picture shows 1000 words"… In relation to the short Documentary found prior, my poster illustrates the prejudice and discrimination that undocumented persons have to face, especially dealing with teenagers. Teenagers who are born in The U.S. or ones that came to the U.S. at a young age and were born to illegal immigrants have to deal with their future and pathway in America being discarded all because of their parents searched for a better future for their family. These teenagers should not be robbed of their fundamental rights, nor treated like a second class American citizen. They should be able to gain Amnesty and fulfill their dreams like any other American child would. How cruel would it be to deport a minor back to their origin country, one that they either barely remember or don't know at all?
This poster is effective in bringing awareness to my campaign because this poster has emotional appeal, it appeals to my audience, (our class with an age range of 16-17) because the female on the poster is of the same age. There is vulgarities and slang strewn around her, all of which are a form of discrimination. She is caught up in barbed wire because she feels trapped by the immigration system. In the end, a young face that is the Future of America should not be robbed of their rights, and THIS is what the true face of immigration looks like.
