Rosario Dawson was born on May 9, 1979, in New York City, New York, USA. She is of Cuban, Puerto Rican, Irish and Native American descent, which has allowed her to be versatile in her roles without being typecast. She was discovered at 15 and was cast in the controversial movie, Kids (1995), then went on to star in a wide variety of both independent and feature films, such as "He Got Game" (1998) and "25th Hour" (2002), and Hollywood duds like "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" (2002) and "Alexander" (2004). "He Got Game" (1998) , "Alexander" (2004), "Rent" (2005), and "Sin City" (2005) just to name a few. She also happens to be a very outspoken political activist for various issues, and is very dedicated to reaching out to make a difference in the world. She supports more than 20 causes such as Womens' Rights, Domestic Violence and Abuse, AIDS & HIV, Civil and Human Rights, Slavery and Human Trafficking, The Environment, Gay Rights and Undocumented Immigrants.
Rosario Dawson has made a great contribution in the fight for undocumented immigrants and making the legislature pass the Immigration reform. She is a passionate advocate for human rights and believes that every human should be granted the fundamental rights in life. Being of Latino descent herself, Dawson feels for her people and even created Voto Latino (rosario-dawson) to push Latinos in the United States to vote. In the past, Voto Latino has set up a drive thru (sic) voting centre at DMV's in California, and has made many PSA's regarding the duty that young Latinos have to their country, and how they are able to shape America's future. She was also involved in the Democratic National Convention in 2012, where she commended the 10 illegal immigrants who were arrested while protesting against deportations. She told The Charlotte Observer: “That’s what it takes. For all of you who just got arrested, I want to commend your bravery. Things will change. We are here with you.” (hollywoodreporter) Below is a clip of her at the DNC and speaking out against the mistreatment of illegal immigrants and how President Obama needs to push the immigration reform through legislature.
